Are your products safe to use during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding?
As you can appreciate many of the findings and recommendations of ingredients which are safe to use during pregnancy are based on anecdotal evidence and assumptions. Our actives have been in use for a number of years without any issues.
The best we can advise is that any adverse effects from the use of our products is unlikely.
A full list of ingredients can be found on our product packaging and on our website. Should you have any concerns in relation to the ingredients, you may wish to consult your physician.
Can I use Claire Hill products if I have sensitive skin?
Our products are suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
Sensitive skin is particularly vulnerable to irritating ingredients and many of us know what it’s like to struggle with break outs, irritation and redness. Your skin feels uncomfortable, you feel uncomfortable and your confidence and self-esteem suffer. We understand sensitive skin and the importance of maintaining the skin’s natural barrier. For this reason, Claire Hill Australia excludes the use of fragrances and sunscreens for their potentially irritating effect. Yes, fragrances do smell nice and yes, consumers are often compelled to buy a product for its scent. The reality is however, that fragrances frequently cause a sensitising reaction on the skin. You may not notice any initial changes but the damage is cumulative with signs of aggravation silently occurring, showing up on the surface of your skin years later.
We also avoid adding SPF to our products. Claire Hill Australia 100% advocate the use of sunscreen in a skin care regime to keep skin healthy in the sun, but we do not believe that it is in your best interest to buy products with a built in SPF. Sunscreen ingredients can cause allergies such as contact dermatitis, rashes, itchy skin, blisters and swelling. Individuals with sensitive skin know that it’s not always as easy as slip-slop-slap. You don’t want to look sunburnt before you even step outside.
Allergies or no allergies, we still recommend a seperate sunscreen. Why? Because a sunscreen mixed into a moisturiser decreases the moisturisers ability to soak deep into your skin to deliver its goodness. Your moisturiser cannot penetrate through a sunscreen barrier effectively and is often left sitting on the surface of your skin. Secondly, mixing an SPF into another product dilutes the sunscreens formula, meaning the amount you put on your face will not be enough to get the coverage required. Claire Hill Australia highly recommend applying a good quality face sunscreen (that is suitable for your skin type) after your moisturiser to help create ‘exceptional agers’.
Are your products suitable for acne prone skin?
Our products are light weight and non-comedogenic thus unlikely to clog pores -a common cause of acne. We have customers with all skin types using our products, however as everyone is unique it really depends on the individual.
What products do you recommend for dehydrated and sensitive skin?
All our products are fragrance free- so great for sensitive skin and our serum (S8-28 Assist) is great for dehydrated skin. It contains a fermented marine extract that stimulates your skin to produce its very own hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid or HA has the ability to hold lots of water – up to a whopping 1000 times its own weight. To seal in that moisture and prevent skin from drying out we recommend layering our serum with our moisturiser (S8-28). If you require extra hydration (such as in Winter when temps and humidity are low) then we recommend adding another hydrator into your skincare routine (not another moisturiser). Moisturisers will help red, flakey skin but tight dehydrated skin will benefit from something like Clinique’s 72hr moisture surge. It can be layered with our products and even over makeup. For more information please see our blog moisturising vs hydrating.
What causes expression wrinkles?
Repeated muscular contraction results in continued skin tension and this continued tension is responsible for the formation of expression wrinkles. For muscles to contract a neuromuscular transmitter called acetylcholine must first be released. Excessive levels of acetylcholine overstimulate facial muscles and this overstimulation creates excess tension. By disrupting the process known as neuronal exocytosis we are able to decrease neuronal excitability and achieve muscle relaxation. Relaxed muscles equal fewer wrinkles.
What's the difference between a serum and a moisturiser?
Serums are much lighter in weight, so they penetrate the skin faster and easier than a cream. Serums nourish and hydrate your skin but they do not moisturise as they lack occlusive agents. For this reason a cream or sealing agent is then layered over the top.
I'm loving my CH products. Just finding in Winter, my skin is more dry and I am in need of an oil based serum in addition to the CH serum and moisturiser.
Winter can play havoc with our skin and dehydration is a common problem. To add moisture you need a humectant (eg. Glycerin, hyaluronic acid – both of which are found in our products). These ingredients draw water into the skin and in turn hydrate skin cells. Oils are great but they are not humectants. Oils are what we call occlusive agents, they trap humectants so that your skin stays soft and hydrated throughout the day. My recommendation is to save any oil for the final step in your skincare regime. If you apply an oil first anything that follows will not be able to penetrate past the oil barrier to deliver its goodness. In a nutshell- load up on humectants first and then seal them in with your oil to stop them escaping.
I have been using your products for a while but I'm not seeing results.
Consistency is key as results are accumulative and improve with time. Optimal results are achieved when our products are used twice daily, everyday. Correct storage of products is also important. A cool dark place away from sunlight and fluctuating levels of humidity (such as your bathroom) will help maintain freshness of all actives.
If you’re layering other brands with Claire Hill you want to make sure that all ingredients are compatible. Some ingredients render others useless before they’ve had their chance to work their magic. Worse still they may cause redness and irritation, damaging the skins moisture barrier and compromising results.
Can I use retinol with Claire Hill products?
Retinol products are best used at night only as they can make your skin sensitive to sunlight. We discourage layering our serum (which contains Vit C) with Retinol as when combined may increase the risk of irritation. Vit C and Retinol also require different pH levels to work, so you’re compromising active effectiveness and therefore results. If you’re determined to use both then we highly recommend separating application by 30 minutes- using our serum first.
What is Hyanify™ and what does it do?
The S8-28 Assist anti-ageing serum contains Hyanify™ an exopolysaccharide which stimulates the synthesis of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) in fibroblasts. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a key compound in the skins dermal extracellular matrix. As we age our skins ability to synthesis its own HA declines, causing visible skin alterations such as dehydration, wrinkles and a loss of volume. Hyanify™ provides a plumping effect to the skin by replenishing volume lost. Skin regains its bounced appearance. Nasolabial folds are visibly reduced in 14 days and the depth of wrinkles reduced up to 70.6% in one month.
What is Stevisse?
Stevisse is a plant based alternative to retinol (VitA) that offers similar rejuvenating results but without the negative side effects such as irritation or redness.
How does Stevisse work?
It’s rather technical but Stevisse prevents the degradation of essential extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins responsible for providing structural support to surrounding cells by reducing the production of metalloproteinases MMP1 and MMP3.
Stevisse also boosts HMOX1, TXNRD and OSGIN1 gene expression to improve skins resistance to oxidative stress whilst also reducing the expression of the pro-inflammatory PTGS2 gene minimising irritation.
How does SNAP-8™ work?
SNAP-8™ works by disrupting neuronal exocytosis through destabilization of the SNARE complex. The SNARE complex is made up of 3 proteins: SNAP-25, Vamp and Syntaxin. These proteins are responsible for the docking of synaptic vesicles (which contain acetylcholine) with the presynaptic membrane in neurons. If this docking and fusion cannot occur, then Acetylcholine cannot not be released and muscles cannot contract.
SNAP-8™ mimics the SNAP-25 protein, competing with it for a place in the complex, affecting its formation and stability.
How is SNAP-8™ different to botox?
SNAP-8™ and Botulinum toxins target the same protein complex (SNARE complex) but in a completely different way. SNAP-8™ mimics the SNAP-25 protein competing with it for a place in the SNARE complex. The SNARE complex is ‘captured’ and muscles are relaxed. Botulinum toxins on the other hand cleave the SNAP-25 protein, breaking the SNARE complex to create muscle paralysis.
Botulinum Toxin is thought to be the most lethal substance on a weight basis (1g of toxin could kill one million people). Cosmetic use requires facial injections which are uncomfortable and can be painful.
SNAP-8™ is a harmless octapeptide composed of amino acids. Cosmetic use is via topical application through creams and serum. In a nutshell, SNAP-8™ is a safer, cheaper and milder alternative to Botulinum Toxin, topically targeting the same wrinkle formation mechanism but in a very different way.
I've heard that long term use of botox can actually increase the signs of age, does that happen with SNAP-8™
There are many factors associated with ageing, one of which is inactivity. Muscles naturally loose size and strength over time, resulting in decreased muscle tone and sagging. Immobility (inactivity) is one of the strongest triggers for diminished muscle mass meaning that some preventative anti-ageing measures like Botox (which prevents muscle contraction) may actually age you faster. The trick is to find the right balancing act. Snap-8 is a milder and safer alternative to Botox that targets the same protein complex but produces softer more natural yet noticeable results. Unlike Botox, Snap-8 does not paralyse muscles- it ‘relaxes them’. This is because Snap-8 does not capture every ‘Snap- 25’ protein. You are still able to move your facial muscles. Snap-8 simply eliminates muscle overstimulation and excess skin tension, 2 factors responsible for the formation of expression lines and wrinkles.
How long do your products last?
It really depends on how much product you use. Some customers find one pump of serum and one pump of moisturiser is suffice where as others really like to lather their products on and use 2 pumps of each. As a general rule you’ll find your moisturiser lasts approx 2 months and your serum 3 months. The same goes with our Micellar water. Some customers double cleanse and others don’t. Some wear heavy make-up where as others go make up free.
Can I use your serum or moisturiser around my eyes?
Our serum can certainly be used around the eye area but our moisturiser which contains the octapeptide Snap 8 is great for crows feet (the wrinkles etched in the corner of your eyes). Although the skin directly under your eyes is thinner and more sensitive than the rest of your face it does not necessarily mean you need to buy a seperate eye cream. Our moisturiser is light weight, fragrance free and SPF free too so it is gentle enough to use around your eyes.
Do your products contain all natural ingredients?
We use natural ingredients where we can but sometimes a synthetic alternative is better. Snap-8 is a perfect example. Snap-8 is an amino acid that targets the same protein complex as Botox. It’s classified as a synthetic ingredient (because it’s produced in a laboratory) however the body cannot distinguish between Snap-8 and its very own Snap-25 protein. Botox on the other hand is natural but it’s a toxin and one gram can kill over a million people. For more information check out our blog on natural beauty.
Are your products cruelty free?
Yes, most definitely. We are all animal lovers 🙂
Do I need to double cleanse or rinse off your micellar water?
There is no need to rinse your face or double cleanse after using our micellar water. The micelles in our formulation remove make up, draw out impurities like grease, grime and dirt and also nourish your complexion with antioxidants and phytonutrients.
Why is my S8-28 Assist Serum runny?
A serum by definition is a clear watery fluid but with many brands labelling face oils and gels as serum it’s understandably very confusing for consumers. To be effective a serum should not contain unnecessary thickening agents or fillers that can get in the way of active ingredients and prevent them from penetrating the skin. Our serum is light weight, full of targeted active ingredients in highly concentrated doses and has been formulated with a runny viscosity for potency and ultra efficiency. As a science based and results driven brand it was important to us to create a formula that delivered.
How does S8-28 Assist differ to other vitamin c serums on the market?
Dermatologists tend to agree that the only effective form of topical Vitamin C is ascorbic acid. Unfortunately, ascorbic acid is unstable and oxidizes in the presence of light, water and air. Thanks to innovation in cellular extraction Claire Hill Australia is able to use the first stable, natural, active and bio-available Vitamin C in a water-soluble format. This means that our serum is packed with powerful polyphenols and their derivatives. Our Vitamin C is extracted from the world’s highest source of Vitamin C – Kakadu Plum, a native tree from Australia. The fruit is harvested by local Indigenous communities exclusively in the Kimberleys (Northern most region in Western Australia) and from the Northern Territory.
How to store your S8-28 Assist Anti-Ageing Serum
We highly recommend storing your S8-28 Assist Anti-Ageing serum in the fridge or a cool dark cupboard to avoid the fluctuating heat, light and humidity in your bathroom. Fresh Vitamin C equals bright and glowing skin.
Why does my face feel oilier when using Claire Hill products?
Our products are light weight and non comedogenic thus unlikely to induce extra sebum production (although everyone is unique). There are many reasons for oily skin, including stress, humidity, genetics, and fluctuating hormones. Wearing heavy make-up like long wearing foundation can also contribute.
What methods of payment do you accept?
We accept most common methods of payment. If you have any problems with your order please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Do you manufacture samples?
We don’t manufacture samples as they contain far too little product to be truly effective. You need at least 28 days before you see results from skincare as this is how long it takes for skin to regenerate.
Transactions are handled with bank-grade security.
Our secure checkout is quick and easy to use.
